[07 Apr 2009|12:51am]
My facebook days are over apparently as they've decided to disable my account. Sadness abounds. In other news, I am the first day of my forced vacation and already wasting my time instead of doing something productive.

Because all the cool kids are doing it, I have a Twitter account. Again, not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I wanted to get one in case someday I decide I need one. :) Yay backwards logic.

So should I be following you?

I've been spending too much time on Facebook, because I'm a poser. Everyone and their mother does seem to have a facebook account and I've found lots of college and some high school friends on there. Friends might be a generic term, but I have found a few people who I want to keep in touch with. Though I'm still not entirely sure what you're supposed to 'do' on facebook. If anyone wants to be my Facebook friend, feel free to let me know (if you aren't already).

Regardless, I'm still alive, still read posts every day. Just don't have a whole heck of a lot going on.

It was snowing big fluffy flakes yesterday and our office smelled like spice scented pinecones and for that brief moment I wanted to run out and buy gifts and put up my tree and everything else. In that spirit, I post this quiz, even though it came through email, because I love Christmas (even though I shouldn't even be thinking about it for another week or so.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper, unless it's just too impossible to wrap. I don't like bags.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
Artificial, our only foray into real was not successful.
3. When do you put up the tree?
December 1 or around that date
4. When do you take the tree down?
Try to put it off until the Epiphany, but it usually goes down the weekend after New Years.
5. Do you like eggnog?
Used to love it, now I just like to have a taste or two at some point.
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I can't remember any particularly exciting gift I received as a child.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
my mom, my aunts, my sister and her husband, my in-laws, my step-son
8. Easiest person to buy for?
my husband, my step-daughter, my brother, my other sister (they break up into two camps, the easy to buy for and the impossible to buy for)
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail if I get around to it
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I can't think of a particularly horrible one. Generally I just get gifts that I don't understand why they wasted their money on them.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
as many as I can watch? The classics are my favorites: Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, Holiday Inn
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
December 1
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
I've given them away, but not re-given them.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Eggs over medium and cookies (not together)
16. Lights on the tree?
Do people put up trees without lights?
17. Favorite Christmas song?
I like the non-classics that still evoke Christmas
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Travel to home?
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's?
Yes
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
My traditional Christmas means opening them on Christmas morning. We exchange one gift before we travel and then the rest when we get back together
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Trying to figure out what to buy everyone
23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
I like looking at all the ornaments I've gotten from the places we've traveled to.
24. Favorite for Christmas eve dinner?
We usually have pizza
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
I'm still formulating my list

Things I love:
The Olympics. I'm really going to miss having something to watch on TV at all hours of the day. I like being able to turn on the TV and immediately have something interesting on. New sports that I caught this time around: trampoline, team rhythmic gymnastics, and steeplechase. My main regret is that I missed cycling in the Velodrome. I suppose I'll have to wait for Vancouver and speed skating to fill that void. I also love the Fuwas. I'm hoping to buy a set of Fuwa plushes so I can hide them in house and continue to have Fuwa sightings now that the Olympics are over.

Things I hate:
Pizza Hut Pizza Mias. They are gross. I don't always want Pizza Hut, but when I do, I tend to stray away because they're more expensive than other decent tasting options. I thought the Pizza Mias were normal Pizza Hut pizzas, just at a lower price. I was wrong. The ingredients are okay, but they don't taste anything like Pizza Hut normal ingredients. The dough is much more chewy, the sauce has very little spice, and the cheese is very flat. I think the worst part is that they taste like they came out of the freezer, where they had been exposed for a few months. The topping looks like it was just plopped on top of the whole thing and then the pizza was put in the oven for 5 minutes. I at least was able to finish my pizzas. We currently have an entire pepperoni one rotting in our fridge.

Things I've been doing:
Making zucchini bread (perhaps successfully even)
Finding people on Facebook (my cousins and a friend from high school)
Worrying about probably having to move
Wondering why I bothered reading the Twilight series when I think they're stupid
Playing Rockband
Still hating my job

What I have been doing:
hating my job
making felt plush animals and other creatures
trying to think of what I would name an Etsy shop if I started one
getting my password on Resort reinstated
celebrating my 32rd birthday
minorly stalking people from my past
still breathing

Oddly enough, I think all of them are related in some way shape or form.

Facebook [14 Nov 2007|01:17am]
I got a facebook account because my stepdaughter has one. Now I am an embarrassment to her because she is my only friend on there (I now have 2 friends after an initial beg-a-thon for friends). So if any of you are on there and want to be friends with me, not because I intend to do anything on Facebook but because it'll buy me a little rep with my stepdaughter, by all means offer yourself up. I must say I am appreciating the features that could be a bit amusing for the kiddies.

Most Disliked Movies [21 Sep 2007|12:28am]
I don't get many comments normally, but I'm appealing to people's greater sense of needing to express their opinions

What movies do you find either over-rated or you just don't understand their appeal?

My list includes:
Citizen Kane
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
Magnolia
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Mystic River
Punch Drunk Love
Raising Arizona
Saving Private Ryan
Snatch
Traffic
Trainspotting

Oooh, two in one night [25 Aug 2007|11:00pm]
While I'm on a posting rampage, I have one question that the Harry Potter fans on my list can weigh in on if they so desire.....

What the hell is Harry doing on the cover of the American version of Deathly Hallows?

I've asked all my library friends and they have no answers. My answer is that Harry is waving goodbye to all his fans.

Free Gift! [25 Aug 2007|10:33pm]
I know this might not be an acceptable reason to post for the first time in 10 or so months, but I couldn't pass up getting stuff and it requires me to post to fulfill the agreement. :)

Pay It Forward: I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment. I'm pondering possibilities for the gifts and it might be that they're custom made for the receiver. Warning (though boys might not be interested anyhow): anything I handmake tends to be of the girly variety (purses and jewelry) just so you're prepared. The only thing you have to do in return for the gift is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your journal.

[And you have to let me know an address where I can mail your gift and/or drop it off.]

Btw, if anyone is wondering, I do read friends posts daily (though I only sometimes log on to read the locked ones). I just suck at keeping in touch myself.

Here is a post to say I'm still alive. Funny that I check what my friends are up to every day, sometimes a couple of times a day, but never feel the need to post anything. Feel free to post any questions, but nothing new is happening in my life.

Our car went from very sad to dead in a short 1 1/2 hour trip. We will probably now be buying a new (used) vehicle to replace aforementioned dead car. I never really liked the old car, but it was reliable until this last year and didn't steal too much of our money. It got us to where we needed to go and travelled halfway across the country on a number of trips. Hopefully its replacement will be able to live up to those expectations.

April's Entry [10 Apr 2006|11:36pm]
It's almost Tax Day, which means that I'm actually trying to work on my taxes a whole 5 days in advance (can't call me a procrastinator). I used to get annoyed by taxes just because of the time it took, but then I'd fill out my cute little EZ form and wait for my refund to show up. 2003's taxes brought forth my first banking interest form since I've become an adult. It's only a couple of dollars and it was fun to include the interest. Last year I had to include getting married, which makes me ineligible to use my favorite form and also pretty much requires me to file jointly and do someone else's taxes for them. This I have found to be the biggest reason ever not to get married. This year, I apparently joined a secret partnership which I wasn't privy to which has given me a whole new slew of forms which I don't understand and which I don't even know how to use. H&R Block software isn't being very helpful either, probably because it first needs me to tell it what the hell this is all about. You would think that this would all mean I actually have money and am not constantly afraid of the inevitable day when I have to move back home because I can't afford rent or bills, but no, all I'll have to show for it at the end is a letter from the IRS saying any refund I got is being used to pay someone else's debts.

What is so special about Good Friday that businesses close and I actually get a vacation day for it? I must have missed the memo stating that an overtly religious holiday (I don't include Christmas and Easter because they have secular aspects. Are there others?) should be celebrated by all. I want my chocolate covered Jesus on the cross.

I'm so used to being able to find anything by searching Google or its friends, that it's amazing when I simply can't find something I'm looking for. I thought everything was on the Internets.

VH-1's I Love Toys has made me want to play with my Fisher Price Little People. I think my mom might still have all my buildings, but I doubt that the people and their furniture are still findable. I'm trying hard not to bid on a huge Ebay lot (especially the one with almost 140 people) to fulfill my current obsession, though I did always want the garage with the elevator, or the Sesame Street playset, or the airport.

I forgot to post in January and still two months later, I don't have anything noteworthy I want to post. I just am wasting space to say that.

Perhaps if someone asks me a direct question, I will respond. No promises.

I need to compile a list of christmas movies to watch each year at this time. What is your favorite?

I haven't seen Scrooged in a looooong time. I don't think we have it at work, so I may need to make a purchase. I'm not a big fan of the Christmas Carol story and just watched the muppet version, but you can't g o wrong with Mary Lou Retton as Tiny Tim. :)

New Layout, Oh My [01 Dec 2005|01:50am]
I've become doubly obsessed with Arrested Development lately. I've watched season 1 & 2 about 5 times each on DVD. I've also converted a few people to watching the show, because I think it's that good especially since I don't tend to buy into new sitcoms anymore. Wish I knew how to get it extended to last at least 5 seasons. That could at least keep me occupied for a few weeks at a time.
